Green Tourism

Committing to Green Tourism is very important for us at Clayton Hotel Leeds. We love our Hotel and our city and want to minimise the impact that we as a hotel have on the environment.

We pride ourselves on offering innovative green solutions. We look after our staff, our customers, our community, and our environment in many ways, from sourcing sustainable suppliers, using eco-friendly and recyclable products and training our employees in environmental awareness and best practices.

The Green Tourism Business Scheme

Green Tourism Business scheme is relevant to all tourism enterprises of any size and location. Whichever form of tourism it applies to, Green Tourism businesses are actively involved in reducing the impact their business has on the environment.

Eco-Friendly Initiatives

Below are just a few of the initiatives that we have implemented to reduce our impact on the environment:

  • All lighting within the building has been changed to LED and where possible is on sensors
  • We removed note pads, pencils and excess printed materials from our bedrooms to reduce our paper consumption.
  • Towel Policy in place to reduce the amount of energy, water, and chemical products being used in the cleaning process by asking guests to consider re-using towels when staying multiple nights
  • We changed our individual bottles of soaps to a single dispenser saving 167,000 plastic bottles per year.
  • We work with our waste company to ensure that our waste is zero to landfill.
  • We support local community good causes, including during our bedroom refurbishment when our furniture was re-homed to support local charities setting up accommodation for people.
  • We donate to Yorkshire Wildlife Park assisting them in their conservation work to protecting the future of our Wildlife.
  • We calculated our paper usage and donated the National Forest to plant 2 trees for every tree used the previous year.
  • We have adapted our menu to include more Vegan and environmentally friendly dishes and work with suppliers to ensure items on our menu such as fish are responsibly sourced.
  • We encourage our staff members and guests to travel to work by means of public transportation or cycle and offer the cycle to work scheme.
  • We have a Green Committee that meets on a regular basis to discuss environmental improvements that can be made within the business.
